I am the mother of two beautiful children, a girl and a boy.
I had two very different birth journeys. My first was very long, did not go to plan and apart from my husband I had very little support. This sent me on a path of discovery to find something better for future births. My second was a beautiful homebirth where I felt fully supported by my husband, midwife and doula. It was this unwavering support that started my own journey to become a doula.
I feel that we carry our births with us on a cellular level and they shape us as mothers and fathers. Because of this I believe that every woman has the right to experience a beautiful and joyous birth.
While I deeply believe that every woman has the ability to birth naturally when given the right support, I also believe that every woman has the right to choose her own birth journey and be supported in her decisions. The journey is as important as the outcome and your journey has to be right for you.
Just as we are all individuals with different needs and wants, so every birth will be different.
I am passionate about supporting women and their partners to have the birth experience that is right for them. I will do this by helping couples explore their options and allowing them to make the choices that are right for them.
I completed my doula course in November 2010 and am very excited about starting my doula journey.
It would be a privilege to support you on your journey to parenthood and during the most sacred part of that journey, the birth of both mother and child.

I am a mother of two beautiful children and it was through my own experiences during pregnancy and labour that I realized the importance of a Doula or birth companion, for both parents. A Doula is an experienced birthing companion who understands the emotional and physical needs of a woman and her family throughout her pregnancy, labour and birth, and provides continuous support (non-medical) and care for a woman throughout her whole birth experience. Both my children were born at Margaret River Hospital which proved to be everything I wanted; a small, private, nurturing hospital with limited interference. I was very well informed and supported in my first labour, with my husband, mum and older sister being present. My husband was fantastic, but the support and encouragement from the women in my family was memorable and invaluable (for us both). My first birthing experience was wonderful, empowering and a memory I treasure. My second labour was very different to my first. Two months before my due date, my husband and I were separated as there were no birthing facilities in the town we were located in, due to his teaching work. Both exhausted before the labour began, and with no extra support my second labour was long and frightening; with neither myself or my husband supported in the way we had been before. This led to unnecessary medical intervention and unfortunately not my ideal birth. My birthing experiences were unique, as are every woman‘s. I feel I bring these experiences with me and they enhance me on my journey, supporting women and their partners in their own unique and individual births. I enjoyed all aspects of pregnancy, labour and birth, and love talking to other mums about their experiences . In April 2007, I was fortunate enough to train as a Doula with Australian Doulas. I am now a member and have completed my Doula Training. I am a Birthworker with Belly flower in Margaret River and I am also actively involved with Margaret River Birth Choices. I believe this, along with my own personal experiences, has equipped me with many skills to support expecting parents. Community Activities · Margaret River BirthChoices

I became a qualified doula in 2006 when I attended the third birth of my Optimum Birth Doula Training. I have since been witness to the birth of my niece Moana and in December 2008 had my own personal experience of birthing when Lahni came along.
I find birth truly amazing. It can be so many things, from a simple and natural process to a complex and unpredictable journey. It is primal and physical yet mysterious and spiritual....It is a right of passage.
My own experiences left me in awe of the power, and also the vulnerability of the human existence and of the process of birth. I found myself with a beautiful baby and a bonding experience I shared with my husband, family and support people but feeling like many aspects of my experience had been out of control...
This has left me even more passionate about each and every pregnancy and birth being recognized and respected for its uniqueness. I am an advocate for women and families to explore their options and make informed decisions regarding all aspects of pregnancy and birth. It is my hope that through working as a doula I can help birth to be as close to its true nature as possible.
