Birth as a Natural Event

Did you know...Women believe that birth is a natural event, for some it is simple and straight forward, for others it is long and difficult, but all women want a fulfilling experience and a healthy baby.

A positive birth experience is influenced by;

bullet

A woman's ability to feel in control in her chosen birth environment

bullet

A woman's ability to freely move and adopt positions of comfort (without restriction)

bullet

The presence of a partner, and a trusted support person

A woman in labor and birth who is cared for by a known, experienced and trusted birth partner;

(when compared to a woman who does not have birth support)
bullet

Is more likely to experience labor and birth as a fulfilling, positive and empowering experience

bullet

Is less likely to require medical pain relief such as an epidural

bullet

Is more likely to have a reduced overall time in labor and birth

bullet

Is less likely to experience medical intervention, such as vaginal examinations, induction, hastening of labor artificially, instrumental delivery, episiotomy, directed pushing, caesarean sections

bullet

Is more likely to successfully breastfeed her baby (WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding for 6months)

bullet

Is less likely to suffer (birth) post traumatic disorder and possible onset of postnatal depression

Selecting who will be with you on your birth journey is an important part of your preparation for your labor and birth.

"Desiree expertly trod that line between being there when we needed her and taking a step back when we required some time as a couple. Her presence certainly helped us achieve an empowering and positive birth experience in spite of a few hurdles we encountered along the way"
